In my understanding of church the

Negotiables include:
Some denominational traditions that are inherited and are no longer viable.
The way we have always been church, run our programmes, services, seminars and the like.
Our church plans and our church vision.
The type of building and location.

Non-Negotiables include:
Being Christ-centered.
The uniqueness of Christ, the Gospel and the Kingdom.
Remaining open to God, and being led by Him.
Prayer/Bible/Worship.
A community who are maturing in Christ.
The quality of our spirituality, being salt and light.
Being Missional.

Emerging Church

What are the absolutes of the Church

Non negotiable
Putting Christ in the centre of everything we do
Living out and showing Christ's Love to everyone.
Taking the Church to the people

Negotiable
Bringing people to church
Belonging to Church (Belong, and Believe)

We have opened up our Band and Singing Group to all who want to be part of the group. Out of five people who joined over two years ago four have come to faith.
The other is on the road and attended an Alpha Course.

The other thought that came to me was money. In today's Salvation Army money is tight in the Territory. I have found in the Corps where I am the leader we have put Christ at the centre of all we have done and money has never been the problem to allow us to start new initiatives in mission. God will honor those who honor him.

I was rather disappointed to have missed out on this discussion in this lecture!

However, for me some of
the non-negotiable are:

The doctrines
The mystery of God
The Incarnational God
The Risen Christ
The Holy Spirit
Kingdom values and living
Focussing on theology and realting it to the culture in which we live will give answers to the churches problems
Adaptablility while still being 'fully in the Kingdom'

Negotiable:

Anything that is non-negotiable!

I can identify with everything that has already been said.

For me the non-negotiables are:

Being Christ-Centred
Missionl
Loving Fellowship
Radical Discipleship
Incarnational Living
Importance upon study of Gods word and dependacy upon him in prayer
Corporate worship (although not necessarily in the form that it generally takes now)
Clarity in what we believe
Cultural relevance

Everything else, I would sugguest could be open to negotiation

Unfortunately I was unable to access this lecture as a 'codec' was needed and I wasn't able to access via web, however having read the question posed and reading others comments I would agree that it is necessary to consider what is negotiable and non negotiable. I agree that negotiables include looking at the way programmes are run, including non soldiers in bands and songsters (which already happens in many corps),the sacraments and the structure of the SA. Non negotiables include incarnational living and listening to God so He leads us all in the right direction.

For me non-negotiable is:
Community in relationship with one another with focus on learning and fellowship.
Commission in relationship to the world with focus on serving, giving and sharing.
Communion with the focus on discipleship and relation with Christ. Non-negiotiable are the role of the bible and place of prayer.

For me negiotiable are the ways and forms that are used in order to reach community, commitment and communion.

Non negotiables are:
Living the gospel and following Christ, building relationships with Christ and with others and alsointeracting with community.

The rest is negotiable: The way we do the non negotiables.
